Writing is hard, y’all. But there are some things that make it easier. Good coffee & lots of it, for one thing. But these tools also make a writer’s job a little easier.
In spite of all I’d heard, I was a holdout for a long time. I thought, “Really, how much better can it be than Word?” Then I tried it. There is no comparison. The organization aspect of Scrivener alone makes it worth the price, & that doesn’t even scratch the surface of its capabilities. And with the recent release of Scrivener 3 for Mac, it got even better. Yes, there’s a bit of a learning curve, but don’t let that scare you off. There are tons of tutorials on YouTube & a free month’s trial. That’s a month of actual use. Don’t open Scrivener one day? That day doesn’t count in your month. Just do it. You can thank me later.
While Scrivener does have some formatting capabilities, it is intended as a writing tool, not a formatting tool. Vellum, on the other hand, is an amazing formatting tool. It is super simple to use, but if you have trouble, there are good instructional videos on YouTube. Vellum allows you to format & export for all the different ebook formats you might need, as well as paperback. The software is free to download from their website, & you only have to pay when you are ready to export your book. Vellum is only available for Mac.
